The Salt Lake Countywide Watershed contains numerous habitats with diverse species compositions. The below map depicts general ecological communities that are found in Salt Lake County; however, a recent (2004) study conducted by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) provides a more detailed assessment of land cover throughout the Southwestern portion of the U.S (Map of SLCo land cover).
As the area-wide water quality planning authority, Salt Lake County is extremely concerned with the ecological health, water quality, and species diversity of our riparian areas. We therefore seek to provide effective stewardship, facilitate stakeholder involvement, and promote awareness of our water resources and the ecosystems contained in the Salt Lake Countywide Watershed. This section of our website provides basic information on local ecosystems. If there is additional information that should be included, please let us know.
