Garter Snake, Jordan River

Wandering Western Garter Snake (Thamnophis elegans vagrans)

In addition to birds, mammals and amphibians, numerous reptiles can be found in the Jordan River Corridor and throughout the Salt Lake Countywide Watershed.  These species range from Rattlesnakes and Garter Snakes to Horned lizards and Snapping Turtles.

A list of rare, common, uncommon, and exotic species was recently developed by Dan Potts, member of the Salt Lake County Fish & Game Advisory Group and local naturalist (Reptile Species in JR Corridor).

Additional information regarding local reptilian species can be found on the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources website.
