WaQSP WATER SUPPLY PLANNING ELEMENT
After three years, 125 stakeholder meetings, 200 individual comments, and numerous unofficial discussions, the final Salt Lake Countywide Water Quality Stewardship Plan (WaQSP) was published in August of 2008. The FINAL WaQSP Water Supply Planning Element is now available for public use. Please let us know if there are any comments or suggestions (801.468.2711).
BACKGROUND
The condition of the watershed recharge area affects the quantity and quality of water for supply purposes. The quantity of water used for potable and irrigation purposes affects the amount of flow available in the stream and could adversely impact recreational and habitat uses. The Water Supply planning element will consider the effect of water supply on the water quantity and quality of the receiving waters in the watershed.
SCOPE
1. Review existing systems and sources.
2. Review groundwater and drinking water quality standards.
3. Review master plans of principal water providers.
4. Describe existing water treatment facilities.
5. Identify effects of water supply strategies on water quality.
MAJOR RECOMMENDATIONS
Facilitate discussions between water supply, wastewater, and stormwater professionals to assure that water resources are viewed collectively in Salt Lake County.
Support water reuse efforts.
Support water conservation efforts.
