Watershed Planning and Restoration Program

Water Quality

Water quality in the Jordan River Watershed has improved drastically since 1978 with the completion of the Area-Wide Water Quality Management Plan.

However, several water bodies have recently been listed on the State Division of Water Quality's 303(d) list of impaired water bodies for such pollutants as:

  • Pathogens
  • Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
  • Zinc, Dissolved Oxygen (DO)
  • Temperature.

In order to reduce the pollutant loads in these impaired water bodies, Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) studies are currently underway for: Little Cottonwood Creek, Jordan River, and Emigration Creek.
